As travelers, we are at an intersection in history, where place meets circumstance and where reality may not match our expectations for much longer.

It was with this realization that Heather Hansen and Kimberly Lisagor set out to document places that could undergo dramatic transformations within our lifetime. Disappearing Destinations profiles 37 destinations from Glacier National Park to the Yangtze River to the Galápagos Islands—all locations that are unique and threatened, or emblematic of other places facing similar struggles.
